In 2011, the number of new entries in the commercial register rose by 6,600 compared to the previous year, an increase of 6.3 percent to 112,030. This indicates the confidence of the economy in Germany as a business location.
The number of new commercial register entries was particularly high in the service sectors (a total of 91,970 new entries or 82.1 percent). These break down as follows:
These figures make it clear that the tertiary sectors are currently responsible for initiating the most business start-ups in Germany.
With 7,140 new entries, the manufacturing industry accounts for 6.4 percent of all new commercial register entries in the current year.
The construction industry accounts for 6.9 percent of all new entries with 7,730 new companies.
The most new commercial register entries in 2011 were recorded in the territorial states North Rhine-Westphalia (24,820), Bavaria (19,500) and Baden-Württemberg (11,550). In all three states, the number of new entries rose compared to the previous year. Most of the other federal states also posted growth. In Bremen, Saarland, Saxony and Thuringia there were fewer commercial register entries than in 2010.
The difference between new entries and deletions is the start-up balance, i.e. the figure by which the number of companies in the commercial register rises in a year. In 2011, the number of commercial register firms rose by 31,270 throughout Germany. Significant growth was recorded in Bavaria (balance: plus 6,830), North Rhine-Westphalia (plus 6,320) and Berlin (plus 5,100).
