• TMD Friction, based in Leverkusen, announces the completion of the acquisition of the company by Nisshinbo Holdings Inc. (Nish), a Japanese listed group. The combination creates the world’s largest automotive brake friction manufacturer.
• Hitachi Automotive Systems Europe GmbH, a subsidiary of Japanese Hitachi Group, has acquired Hüco Automotive GmbH, specialized on electronics and based in Espelkamp near Bielefeld, to strengthen its automotive aftermarket business in Europe.
• Switzerland-based speciality chemicals company Clariant steps up innovation and expansion strategy in flame retardants. With the adding of a third production unit at its site in Hürth-Knapsack near Cologne Clariant will achieve a tripling of its capa
• German specialty polymers supplier Evonic Industries AG is expanding an existing plant in Marl. The Essen-based company will add capacity in Marl to make 5.000 metric tons annually. The project is scheduled to start production in 2012.
• The British fashion retailer Primark is building a 40.000 m² sized logistics center in Mönchengladbach, bringing 250 new jobs to the region. The new distribution center will handle shipments for Primark stores located in the neighboring countries.
• The Hungarian producer of pastry snacks Sweet Horn GmbH has opened a new subsidiary in Geilenkirchen for its international logistics market development. The 5.5 m € investment will create up to 70 new jobs.
• Minnesota-based industrial cleaning specialist Ecolab plans to relocate its German headquarter to Monheim. At the 32.000 m² site the new building will host about 900 employees.
• Vermont-based StarWind Software Inc., a global leader and pioneer in SAN software, has opened a new office in Sankt Augustin to strengthen their presence in Germany and offer local sales and support services to its growing base of customers.
• French insurance group Axa moves into a new building in Düsseldorf-Heerdt. With its relocation into the 30 m € unity with about 13.500 m² office space the group affirms its commitment to North Rhine-Westfalia.
• In spring a store of the nationwide operating German company Modepark Röther will be opening in Hückelhoven. With a sales floor of 4.800 m² the store will be the biggest department store in the region.
• Eviag AG, German supplier of wind energy, sticks with its location in Duisburg after being successfully acquired by Fuhrländer AG. Project development will be added to the existing business segments of the subsidiary.
• Boll & Kirch Filterbau invests several million € in the building of another ballast water treatment facility in Kerpen-Sindorf. Up to 130 new jobs will be created.
• Siemens expands its activities at Mühlheim. The company has continuously developed its plant for the production of power station turbines and almost doubled the number of employees within the last five years now up to 5000.
• The aviation service provider and recruiting company AviationPower, joint venture of Lufthansa Technical Training and Manpower, opens up an office at the Cologne-Bonn airport, its fifth in Germany.

• Milliman Inc., a leading American global consulting and actuarial firm opens up a new office in Düsseldorf. The consultants in the new office will operate as part of the European Milliman Team, which includes 250 consultants.
• The British automotive supplier GKN Sinter Metals Components expands its activities in Bonn. Because of a very good present state of business 45 new jobs have been created this year. Furthermore, 5 m € will be invested in the production facilities.
• Trox GmbH, manufacturer of ventilation and air conditioning devices has opened a new 15.500 m² sized production facility in Anholt. The amount invested was 20 m €, 150 new jobs were created.
• Barmbas GmbH, distributor of Greek and Mediterranean gastronomic specialties, is now domiciled in Bornheim. In line with the settlement approximately 80 new jobs are being created.
• Unilever, a British-Dutch multinational company specializing in fast-moving consumer-goods, invests in two new production lines at its location in Kleve. In addition, the building of a block heat and power plant is scheduled for 2013.
